Creating and Coding are at the heart of STEAM Centre camps and workshops. Our dynamic projects help kids become coders and makers; critical thinkers able to turn an idea into an object!
When it comes to preparing kids for the future, coding provides a clear advantage. Coding teaches the process of breaking down complex problems into simpler problems. It requires understanding what users want and crafting solutions to their needs, so when children learn to code, they become greater communicators, and relate to the world around them better.
Creating is part of being human; we're all makers. At the STEAM Centre, we have access to a set of amazing tools, but the most important tools are the enthusiasm and curiosity the students bring to making and solving challenges. In creative workshops, activities can involve anything from using Jello as lenses to 3D printing yourself as a Pez Dispenser! Camps and WorkshopsSTEAM Centre camps and workshops challenge youth to use creative technologies to prototype ideas and explore hands-on science based projects. Not only do our programs build kids' creative confidence and problem solving skills, they also introduce kids to some amazing digital tools to gain 21st century skills and competencies.
For March Break Camp, we're offering seriously fun science, engineering and art/design project kits, designed to develop kids’ natural creativity and curiosity! Each Kit will include materials for a project-a-day with detailed step-by-step instructions. Recorded tutorials with tips and tricks will be available the week of March Break to give instruction so kids can participate in their own time. Highlights & HistoryThe STEAM education team has been designing and delivering incredible youth camps and workshops since 2016. From learning to CNC a table-top arcade machine, to designing 3D printed pieces to a puzzle, STEAM Centre students become confident and competent designers, technologists and scientists!
Street Art Workshop for TeensIn 2019, we launched a two part program to teach local high school students how to design and execute large-scale street art, including painted murals and digital projections. World famous street artist MEDIAH worked with us to teach 8 teens to become large scale mural artists! Students gained new skill-sets, and ultimately enhanced the street art in the community when one student's sketch was selected to become a large mural downtown St. Thomas. Today, Liam's portrait can be found on the back of the Ignite Youth Centre.

The virtual STEAM camp was a great experience. It was laid out really well and easy to understand. We were shocked at all of the stuff that was provided. Our young man had a blast and was excited to be part of the experience every day. He would have kept doing it over and over if he could, he was sad to have it end.
