What the community is saying about STEAM!

On our Virtual STEAM Camp

“The virtual STEAM camp was a great experience. It was laid out really well and easy to understand. We were shocked at all the stuff that was provided. Our young man had a blast and was excited to be part of the experience every day. He would have kept doing it over and over if he could, he was sad to have it end.”

(Their young man said) “I had lots of helpful teachers and got to make a roller coaster, it was awesome.”

“It was a fantastic experience for our children. Everything was well put together and it was clear how much thought and care was taken. They even did a laser cut out art puzzle for our youngest allowing him to participate. Our kids loved all their creations and had a wonderful time. It was a great opportunity when so much had been cancelled. It was definitely a shining moment in our summer. We are so impressed with the organization and all they provide. Thank you!”

“I really appreciate the donation of the computer!! My son and I have been working hard together, trying to set it up, and get it working, so we can continue our studies. It will be very useful for my son to do his homework, and I will also use the computer for a sign language class I signed up for through the library. Our old computer was very old! Ancient, actually!! So this new computer will be so much more fun to work and play on. Thanks again!!”

“A BIG THANK YOU to the Steam Centre for putting smiles on the faces of 2 of our Big Brothers Big Sisters families.  Two desktop computers were generously donated!
At a time when families are working hard to keep their children and youth healthy and safe, this donation has provided both families with the technology needed to stay connected during this unprecedented time.
To Jessica and her team, we thank you for supporting our cause.”

“You have an exceptionally talented educator in Fred who does so much more than show students how to work with physical computing; he gives us a feeling that we can be courageous, even whimsical, with technology – a very liberating view that bolsters the current educational climate of growth mindset (for teachers too, not just students”

“Thank you for the memorable field trip for our Grade 3 classes. We had 5 different “experienced” teachers , and we all agreed that this was one of the best year end field trip that we have brought our Grade 3’s on. It’s fantastic to hear and see the students be creative, taking risks in a welcoming space. We will definitely be booking next year.”

Grade 3 Teacher Stoney Creek P.S.

“My students exuded pure joy…It was a totally incredible learning opportunity for them—and for me. (Fred) found wonderful ways for students to review scientific concepts with actual hands-on materials. Technology might seem daunting to many,” said one participant, “but Fred, and other members of their professional team made it so easy, so accessible. They showed you the basics and then they just let you play. Their enthusiasm was irresistibly contagious.”

Emma Romme, LCDSB teacher

“[During their field-trip] the students were so engaged that they became different students! As a space that promotes creativity and thinking, project based learning is the future of education…and the direction we need to go.” “freedom to try new things without being afraid to be wrong is what makes the STEAM Centre the uplifting, energized place that it is.’ “[STEAM Staff] were “truly fabulous…letting the students discover things on their own. They went above and beyond my expectation.”

Katherin O’Hara, Department Head of Mathematics, South Secondary School

“My son attended STEAM Centre’s Summer Camp and loved it! Compared to other STEM camps, STEAM Centre’s use of current and relevant technology gave him skills he has been able to frequently apply to his other interests.”
